Shivapuri Peak Hike is a short trek from Kathmandu that offers admirable view of the Langtang Himalayas, wonderful nature, eagle-eye view of Kathmandu valley and the surroundings. It is a perfect hiking for those people visiting Nepal, who cannot go for longer and higher treks.
Shivauri hill is located at 2,563 m which is also known a the highest hill near to Kathmandu valley. Shivapuri National Park is 13 km far from Kathmandu. The Shivapuri hill trek starts from Nagarjun Gate and ends at Sundarijal. Due to the dangerous wild animals within the park, a day hike inside Shivapuri national park is not allow without an experienced guide.
Shivapuri peak hike is one of the best 1 day short treks near Kathmandu. The trek will start at 8 am and end at 4 pm. After a hike you will drive back to Kathmandu from Sundarijal. After the dense jungle walk.
The first few hours of the hike are spent mostly on dusty roads. Above the steep stone steps, the trail climbs northeast towards Nagi Gumba. A trail lined with trees will bring you to Nagi Gumba after walking for almost 2 km. There are fluttering prayer flags and abbess chatting and working in the area immediately identifying the monastery.
If the weather is nice, you can see the valley below with great clarity. Take a break at the monastery and have a cup of tea or coffee in the tea shop.
In the next section of the hike, there is a vertical incline to Bhagdwar and then to Shivapuri Peak. From the back of the monastery, follow the stone steps north. This trail is straightforward. But it is tiring as you have to walk mostly on stone steps .It takes approximately 900 m to reach the Shivapuri peak from Nagi Gumba.
08.00am: Pick up from your hotel in Kathmandu by private car and drive to Nagarjun Gate. NOTE: It is about 8km and a 30-minute drive from Kathmandu to Nagarjun Gate.
09.00am: Arrive in Nagarjun Gate and start trek to Shivapuri Hill Peak via Shivapuri village.
01.00pm: Arrive at Shivapuri Peak (2732m). You will enjoy your lunch here amidst amazing mountain views.
02.00pm: Continue the Shivapuri Peak hike to Sundarijal. NOTE: Sundarijal is a beautiful village with fresh water and surrounded by dense forest.
04.00pm: Drive to Kathmandu from Sundarijal. The journey from Sundarijal to Kathmandu will take about an hour.
05.00pm: Drop off at your hotel, trek ends. Congratulations!
