Chitwan National Park is the most famous national park in Nepal and is located close to Kathmandu. It is well known for jungle safaris, especially for spotting the one-horned rhinoceros. Chitwan National Park is about 169 km from Kathmandu. It takes 5–6 hours by road or 20 minutes by flight. You can fly from Kathmandu to Bharatpur Airport for about USD 120, then take a taxi to Sauraha for around USD 20. You can also travel by private car, which costs about USD 100–120. Tourist buses leave in the morning from Thamel or Kalanki and cost about USD 12. Local buses are cheaper (USD 6–8) but are crowded and less comfortable.
Chitwan National Park is about 150 km from Pokhara. The journey takes around 4 hours by private vehicle and about 5 hours by tourist bus. Public transportation is also available, but it may take a little longer.
The drive is scenic and comfortable; however, during the monsoon season, there may be occasional landslides.
You can also fly from Pokhara to Bharatpur Airport. There is usually one flight per day, costing around USD 75 per person, one way. When airport check-in and possible delays are considered, both road and flight options take a similar total time.
Chitwan is about 150 km from Lumbini and takes around 5 hours by private vehicle. Travel may be faster once road maintenance is complete.
There is no direct bus or flight between Lumbini and Chitwan. Public transport is available but may require one or two vehicle changes. The easiest option is to travel by private vehicle.
