    FAQS

Why do people make animal sacrifices at Dakshinkali Temple?

Devotees offer animal sacrifices at Dakshinkali Temple—especially on Tuesdays and Saturdays—as an act of devotion to Goddess Kali, believed to fulfill wishes and grant protection.

Which days are best to take the Dakshinkali–Pharping–Kirtipur day tour?

Tuesdays and Saturdays are ideal for visiting Dakshinkali due to the temple’s special rituals. However, other days are more peaceful and less crowded, making them good for spiritual reflection.

Why is Pharping considered a sacred place?

Pharping is sacred to both Hindus and Buddhists. It is home to ancient caves where Guru Rinpoche meditated and several revered monasteries and Hindu shrines, blending two spiritual traditions.

Did Guru Rinpoche really meditate in Pharping?

Yes. It is widely believed that Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava), a central figure in Tibetan Buddhism, meditated in the Asura and Yangleshö caves of Pharping, attaining realization there.

Why is Kirtipur important to the Nepalese people?

Kirtipur holds historical and cultural importance. It was a fiercely independent city during the Malla period and resisted conquest by King Prithvi Narayan Shah. Today, it is admired for its Newar heritage, architecture, and cuisine.
